Having a good big brother is key in the development of kids with no direction or guidance. Big brothers ensure that these kids grow up having someone to look up to in times when society has rejected them. That is why I would like to take this time and thank my big brother. Actually I’m the big brother to my younger brother who I seriously hate and spent countless hours beating up as kids. But because I didn’t have a big brother, I had to look up to sources outside the confines of the home. My big brother was the skate magazine BIG BROTHER and man was he awesome. He gave me a glimpse of what it’s like to be a teenager. I got to see what hot skate girls looked like when nude, I learned that you can wear DEPENDS while out getting wasted, and I learned how to make home made bombs. Those were the days.

The young skateboarders of Kansas City have a great big brother as well and his name is Rob Dyrdek. He is really doing some great things for not just the skateboard community, but for the cities as well.

In association with STREET LEAGUE Skateboarding, the Rob Dyrdek Foundation will celebrate the official opening of Kanasas City’s first Safe Spot Skate Spot at Penn Valley Park. Rob Dyrdek, KCMO Director of Parks and Recreation Mark McHenry and Jan Marcason of the 4th District City Council will hold a press conference at 4:00pm on Wednesday, May 15th at Penn Valley skate plaza, W. 29th St. & Pennsylvania Ave. in Penn Valley Park.

Last year, the Rob Dyrdek Foundation donated ,000 in design services and ,000 for the construction of the park. Designed by California Skateparks, a world-renowned skate park design firm, the revamped skate plaza features an additional 7,000 square feet that integrates ten (10) donated elements from the 2011 Street League Skateboarding contest course into the preexisting skate park. The plaza also features new cantilever capped ledges, stairs, banks, quarterpipes and a fresh coat of paint bringing new life into the old elements of the original park.

The Penn Valley skateplaza is part of Rob Dyrdek Foundation’s “Safe Spot Skate Spot,” a program conceptualized by Rob Dyrdek that seeks to create safe and legal havens for skaters across the country. The main goals of the program are to provide communities with safe, and legal skate plazas, increase and encourage the active engagement of people in the sport of skateboarding, and design and develop skate plazas in municipalities throughout the world. Additionally, the program provides an alternative option for communities with limited budgets or space restrictions to develop real street-skating locations.

“I’m extremely proud to partner with Mayor Sly James, Parks and Recreation Director Mark McHenry and the 4th District City Council of Kansas City to revamp and create a world class skateplaza at Penn Valley Park,” said Rob Dyrdek, the Foundation’s Founder and President. “As you know, Kansas City has produced some of the biggest stars in skateboarding, including last year’s Street League Champion Sean Malto, who will be defending his title on Saturday at the Sprint Center. I am honored that both Street League Skateboarding and the Rob Dyrdek Foundation have helped to continue the City’s strong commitment to the skateboarding community by building more safe and legal skateplazas.”

“I am so grateful to Rob and Street League for their generosity to the City of Kansas City, and skaters from across the area. Penn Valley Park has long been where Kansas City comes to celebrate, and the donation of this equipment to its skate park is one more reason why it is one of America’s finest urban parks. This weekend, skaters from across the Midwest will come to see the Street League DC Pro Tour at our Sprint Center. Some of the nation’s best skate pros have come from Kansas City, and events and equipment like this will continue to keep us on the scene in a big way,” said Kansas City Mayor Sly James.

The Street League DC Pro Tour Fueled by Monster Energy Stop One Finals in Kansas City, MO will broadcast LIVE from the Sprint Center on ESPN2, Saturday May 15, at 9:00 p.m. Eastern, 6:00 p.m. Pacific.

If you are looking for an interesting place to take an international vacation to, consider going to Portugal. Portugal has many unique and exciting attractions for travelers to enjoy. One of the most interesting sites to see while visiting Portugal is called the Capela dos Ossos, which in English means the Chapel of Bones. The purpose of the exhibit is to illustrate the fact that no matter are differences, we are all made of the same things, bones. If you need to get a same day passport before your vacation to Portugal, you can take care of your passport needs online at an internet passport agency.

Passport Needs

A passport is an essential document when it comes to international travel. They allow an individual to enter foreign countries and re-enter the United States with ease. However, these documents must be kept up to date including renewals and name changes. These services if needed quickly can be garnered using same day pass port services.

Chapel Of Bones

At the entrance to this chapel it reads “We, the bones that are here, await yours.” This is a prime example of the goings on of the Counter-Reformation era. The chapel derives its name from the walls that are covered with human skulls and bones. In the 16th century a Franciscan monk wanted to get his fellow brothers to contemplate the idea of life being transitory. He established the chapel of bones for this purpose.

The Chapel

The chapel is comprised of three spans that are 59 feet by 36 feet. Light enters due to three small openings that are on the left. The walls and pillars within the chapel are carefully decorated with an arrangement of bones and skulls that are held together by cement. A look up at the ceiling will reveal a view of with painted brick ornately decorated with death themed motifs. The estimated number of skeletons that adorns this chapel is about 5,000 and have come from cemeteries from over a dozen churches. Some of these bones have been written on and others have been placed in odd macabre positions. This provides more evidence of the Counter-Reformation movement that placed a high emphasis on the afterlife as opposed to the here and now.

Other Sites

Other places to venture to when visiting Evora include ancient Roman Ruins, an old aqueduct, as well as the Almendres Cromlech. The Almendres Cromlech is a megalithic complex that is a vital megalithic monument within the Iberian Peninsula. There is also a nice park nearby and the historic center of Evora is an UNESCO World Heritage site. A visit to Evora University is a must see as well, the main building was formed on an ancient convent that was founded in 1559.

Portugal is a fantastic place to take an overseas vacation to. If you are looking for something interesting to do while you are in Portugal, you can check out the Capela dos Ossos, also known as the Chapel of Bones. It is an amazing attraction that illustrates the fact that we are all comprised of bones. If you need to take care of any passport services before your trip, like a same day passport, you can go online and get assistance from an internet pass port agency.

Design goes through phases like MUSIC or FASHION, except the turnover for design is at a rapid pace. Tomorrow’s artwork is already gaining steam today and can be seen as early as tomorrow. Literally. Some designs aren’t exactly innovating a new path for the way we look at things, but they still create a stir that makes people excited. Just like the KONY video. Even better than Kony 2012 is what REAL SKATEBOARDS is doing to get you, the twerp involved!

In a large and new exciting way to get people stoked on skateboard graphics, REAL SKATEBOARDS wants you to help design their upcoming “Made For Everywhere” deck. All you have to do is hashtag (okay if you don’t know what a hashtag is because I didn’t until a few weeks ago when I joined Instagram, it’s the number (#) symbol that when attached to a word like “#jonathantaylorthomas” will link to a page under the same hashtag. I think that’s primarily what it’s used for) #REALSKATEBOARDS on Twitter or Instagram, and that photo will be included to create a mosaic for their new deck. If you don’t use either of those social networs, you may also do @REALSKATEBOARDS for Facebook. And if you don’t use Facebook, just search REALM4M on GRINDR and someone on there will help you with your dilemma.

On May 23rd, 20112, Real Skateboards will pick their favorite tagged photos to include in the design of the deck. Check out the video below if you’re hopeless and still don’t know what to do.
